Dragon's blood (xuejie 血竭)

Dragon's blood is any of several red, resinous substances obtained from various tropical plants and trees. It is used for coloring varnishes and in photoengraving.

J. V. G. Mills says the following about it in a footnote:

"Dragon’s blood is a red resin produced from Dracaena schizantha and Dracaeni cinnabari found in East Africa and South Arabia (Wheatley, ‘Commodities’, p. 109)."
